INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS
Sticky rice
For this recipe, only use sticky rice because it helps the rice cakes stick together in the air fryer. Regular white rice or bown rice will not work the same. You definately need to use sticky rice for this spicy tuna crispy rice.
Vegan Spicy “Tuna”
This vegan spicy “tuna” is made with carrot tots and with no tuna. If you do not have carrot tots you can also sub tater tots with 1 tbsp of pureed carrots to get the orange coloring and carrot flavoring.
Vegan Mayo
The vegan mayo is used to make the same spicy mayo they serve at sushi restaurants. If you are not vegan or just want a dairy free option you can sub regular mayo.
Avocado + Cucumber
These are traditional sushi toppings you can add onto your crispy rice cakes. This is where you add other sushi toppings like mango or wasabi.
Gluten free soy sauce or coconut aminos
Use gluten free soy sauce or coconut amoinos for dipping the spicy tuna crispy rice in! You can omit this if needed or you can use regular soy sauce if you are not gluten free!
Air fryer
This spicy tuna crispy rice should be made in an airy fryer. Also, if you do not have an air fryer, pan fry them with cooking oil spray. Pan fry each side until browned. Do not drench in spray or use a lot of cooking oil to help keep this recipe healthy.




TASTE & TEXTURE
The sticky rice cakes are crispy without being oily. The carrot tots mixed with spicy mayo have a similar mashed texted as spicy mayo without being too wet.
This Spicy “Tuna” Crispy Rice Sushi is spicy. If you want less spicy you can use less sriracha.
Also, make this crispy rice spicier by adding dots of sriracha on top after fully prepared. You can also add wasabi on top if desired!


HOW TO MAKE
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
First, make the microwaveable rice. Once it is hot, mix with rice vinegar.
STEP 2
Next, place sticky rice mixture into a rectangular object to hold its shape, i.e. loaf pan or create a rectangular shape with your hands. Pack it down tightly and refrigerate for approx 1 hour.
STEP 3
After, remove from refrigerator and cut into 1″ x 1 1/2″ slices.
STEP 4
Next, preheat the air fryer to 390. Once preheated, add sticky rice slices and cook for approx 7-9 minutes or until browned.
STEP 5
While the sticky rice is cooking, heat up your carrot tots in the microwave for 30-60 seconds or until room temperature.
STEP 6
Next, in a bowl, mash the carrot tots and add the vegan mayo and sriracha. This is the spicy “tuna” topping.
STEP 7
Remove from the air fryer once the stick rice is fully browned,. Top with avocado slices. Then, top with spicy “tuna” mixture, add avocado slices.
STEP 8
Finally, option to top spicy tuna crispy rice with cucumber slices, extra spicy mayo or sesame seeds.

EXPERT TIPS & TRICKS
