When I first went gluten free, it was SO hard to find easy dinner recipes that catered to more than one food allergy, especially when it came to asian inspired dishes and poke bowls! As I went gluten free that these meal options were gone because a lot of them use soy sauce in their recipes and soy sauce is not gluten free.
This delicious spicy tuna poke bowl is perfect for busy weeknights, just like my gluten free grilled chicken poke bowl! It is made on a regular basis in my house! This recipe is perfect for a busy weeknight dinner or a quick lunch. It is packed with so much flavor and is even a great quick lunch. All you need is canned tuna, fresh vegetables and white rice! This recipe is gluten free, dairy free and nut free.
If you’re gluten free and looking for more recipes made with rice, I also love this air fryer salmon poke bowl and this one pan cheesy taco skillet. Both recipes are made with a base of rice which is 100% naturally gluten free!

- If you love a spicy tuna roll you’ll love these spicy tuna poke bowls! I make them at least once a week in our house!
- These spicy tuna poke bowls are packed with fresh veggies and high quality canned tuna. As a kid I always loved canned tuna. Whether it was in a tuna salad, or made into tuna patties, I always enjoyed it so it was a naturaly progression to make a poke bowl with it as well! Its SO much easier than buying sushi grade tuna.
- If you buy great quality canned tuna this recipe can be made anytime you have the fresh ingredients on hand. I always enjoyed canned tuna. It stays for longer than fresh sushi grade tuna and I always keep it on hand for when I want to make this recipe!
ingredients & substitutions
Cooked white rice: The base of rice is the start to the spicy tuna poke bowl. You can substitute brown rice, sushi rice, quinoa, or cauliflower rice for a different texture or additional nutrients. Any kind of rice that is fully cooked rice works well here. You can cook the rice in the microwave, on the stovetop or in a rice cooker. I like using instant microwavable rice or frozen rice to save time. I mean thats what we’re really here for right? EASY and QUICK dinners. So I like to save myself the time and buy frozen rice.
Canned tuna: You can use any kind of tuna including yellowfin tuna, raw tuna, bigeye tuna, fresh ahi tuna steaks, albacore tuna, sashimi-grade tuna or chunks of fresh tuna. For best results I like to use high-quality tuna or high-quality canned tuna. All can be found at your local grocery store.
Sliced avocado: I LOVE avocado. Honestly I’m always looking for any excuse to add an avocado to a recipe! Avocado adds good for you fats and creaminess. But if you’re preferences are different than mine feel free to skip the avocado if you wany!
Chopped kale: I like to use chopped kale or an asian inspired salad kit! I love the freshness the greens give this poke bowl! Add some seaweed salad for a different poke bowl twist.
Chopped carrots, cucumber, green onions: You can use any fresh vegetable toppings here! These are my personal favorites but feel free to also add chives, edamame, or even pineapple chunks or mango slices.

expert tips & tricks
- If you love spicy food you can add as much spicy mayo as you want. Some days I even add a little sriracha to mine for an extra kick!
- Mix mayonnaise with sriracha or hot sauce to create a homemade spicy sauce.
- You can also use a different sauce or drizzle with sesame oil and top with sesame seeds for a sesame taste.
- This recipe called for canned tuna to make it a convenient and easy recipe but you can of course use sushi-grade fish from your local fish market or local fishmonger for these tuna bowls. Any tuna works for this bowl and trust me, I love all the variations!
how to serve, store and meal prep
Assemble the spicy tuna poke bowl right before serving. Cook the rice following package instructions.
While rice cooks, prepare other ingredients. Flake the tuna, chop vegetables, and slice avocado.
Once rice is cooked, build your bowl by layering rice, tuna, vegetables, and avocado.
Drizzle the spicy tuna poke bowl with desired amount of spicy mayo and sprinkle with green onions.
Leftovers can be stored in separate containers in the refrigerator. Consume them within 1-2 days for best quality. I love to bring this meal to work for an easy on the go lunch.
