As someone who is gluten free and allergic to almonds it is so important to me to make easy gluten free recipes without nuts. I always loved poke bowl but after going gluten free it was really hard to find a poke restaurant that had gluten free soy sauce. This poke bowl with chicken an easy gluten free dinner. It is also dairy free and nut free.
If you didn’t know, poke is a traditional hawaiian dish usually made with fresh sushi-grade tuna but in this version of a poke bowl recipe you can use any fish or chicken you want.
This delicious poke bowl is perfect for busy weeknights, just like my gluten free spicy tuna poke bowl with canned tuna. I make this poke bowl miltiple times a week for lunch! My husband and I both love it!

Jasmine Rice: You can use basmati rice or any other long-grain white rice like sticky rice. I like using instant microwavable rice or frozen rice to save time. I mean thats what we’re really here for right? EASY and QUICK dinners. So I like to save myself the time and buy frozen rice.
Chicken: I love chicken because it is a lean source of protein. You can use grilled chicken, shredded chicken or even canned chicken in this poke bowl recipe! Totally up to you! The easiest way to save time is to buy a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. The great thing with this option is that the chicken is already ready to go and you just have to shred it!
Fish: You can use fresh fish or raw fish in these poke bowls. You can use any kind of tuna including yellowfin tuna, raw tuna, bigeye tuna, fresh ahi tuna steaks, albacore tuna, sashimi-grade tuna or chunks of fresh tuna. For best results I like to use high-quality tuna or high-quality canned tuna. I also love salmon! Sushi-grade salmon or cooked salmon also makes for a great salmon poke bowl. All can be found at your local grocery store. The type of fish you use is totally up to you and your personal preference!
Sliced avocado: Adds healthy fats and creaminess. Cubed tomatoes, mashed sweet potato, or crumbled feta cheese can be used instead.
Chopped cucumber: Adds freshness and hydration. Substitute with chopped zucchini, radishes, or snap peas for a similar texture.
Spicy mayo: The poke bowl sauce. Provides extra flavor. You can sub gluten free soy sauce or coconut aminos on top instead. I also like to squeeze lime juice on top if I have it!
Chopped green onions: Adds a bit of oniony flavor. Chopped chives or sweet onions can be used instead.

expert tips & tricks
- If you love spicy food like I do, you can add as much spicy mayo as you want. Mix mayonnaise with sriracha or hot sauce to create a homemade spicy sauce.
- You can also use a different sauce or drizzle with sesame oil and top with sesame seeds for a sesame taste. Sometimes I use a gluten free Japanese bbq sauce on top instead!
- For an extra kick top the poke bowl with red pepper flakes.
- Add any poke bowl toppings you want. Add some leafy green vegetables or raw fresh vegetables. Spinach, arugula, or mixed greens work as substitutes. Add some seaweed salad for a different poke bowl twist. I like adding extra kale for lots of fresh toppings!
- Top with fried shallots, fried onion, black sesame seeds or white sesame seeds for enchanced bold flavor.
