I love an easy breakfast recipe. When I was a kid I LOVED the kellog’s special K cereal with red berries. For me, it was all about the freeze dried strawberries. I thought they were exclusive to that cereal and didn’t exist anywhere else. NEWSFLASH, you can buy just the strawberries separate from the cereal. I had no idea. So as soon as I bought them I was putting them in everything from cereal to oatmeal to brownies. This strawberry oatmeal recipe is the elevated version of my favorite cereal as a kid, just in the warm and cozy version!
Honestly, I hated oatmeal as a kid… but, it has been one of my go-to breakfast as an adult! The toppings are endless, from my banana peanut butter oatmeal, to my apple peanut butter oatmeal to my peanut butter apple chocolate chip oatmeal… I love them all!

ingredients & substitutions
Gluten-Free Oats: I used rolled oats for the oatmeal with strawberries. If you are celiac like me, make sure to choose gluten free oats! I even buy the oats mixed with quinoa and chia seeds for extra texture.
Mashed bananas: Sweetener and adds moisture to the Strawberry Oatmeal recipe. You can substitute with applesauce or pumpkin puree.
Oat Milk: An easy way that helps me keep this dairy free. Oat milk adds a creamy, slightly sweet, and dairy-free base to the oatmeal. You can also use any other plant-based milks like soy, almond, or cashew milk to make this dairy free oatmeal.
Protein powder: Adds protein. You can substitute with nut butter (almond butter, cashew butter), chia seeds or ground flaxseed for a protein boost. If you do not want to use protein powder just use more oats.
Peanut butter powder: Adds peanut butter flavor without the extra fat to the strawberry oatmeal. You can substitute with regular peanut butter or any other nut butter you like.
Toppings: Add any of your favorite toppings to the oatmeal with strawberries. Chocolate chips, freeze-dried chopped strawberries, and sliced banana – add sweetness and fun textures. You can use any toppings you like – nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, or a drizzle of honey. You can also add a sprinkling of brown sugar, a pinch of salt, sugar, vanilla extract or almond extract, pure maple syrup, non-dairy yogurt or greek yogurt, additional fresh strawberries or strawberry jam.
