why you’ll love this gluten free recipe
- Cheesy Deliciousness. Toasted baguette slices topped with goat cheese? Yes please! Sign me up! This is a no-fail recipe and is always a crowd pleaser! They’re easy to make vegetarian or with sliced steak on top! The sweetness of the candied pecan, topped with some fresh peppery arugula, and the saltiness of the goat cheese makes for the perfect balance.
- Perfect for any time of year. This goat cheese crostini recipe works well any time of year, whether it is a summer bbq or a holiday get together. It pairs perfectly with almost any entree or dish, making it a perfect appetizer for any occasion.
- The best part about this recipe is that it is a no mess recipe…The only dish I use here is the sheet pan to bake the crostini but I line it with parchment paper to minimize the clean up. My ideal situation since I hate doing dishes.
- This recipe is allergy friendly. You can use gluten free baguette like I did for gluten free crostini. You can use dairy free cheese for an easy dairy free crostini recipe! I love bringing gluten free crostini appetizers to a potluck because no one ever knows it is actually gluten free and I get to safely enjoy it!
ingredients & substitutions
Gluten-Free Baguette: The toasted baguette holds up well with the toppings, and is suitable for those with gluten sensitivities. I have celiac disease and eat gluten free so I know how important it is to be able to make a delicious gluten free dish!
Cranberry Goat Cheese: I love the creamy, tangy goat cheese on these goat cheese toasts! It adds a sweet and tart flavor profile to the gluten free crostinis. It’s a perfect pairing with the savory elements of this goat cheese crostini recipe. If you can’t find cranberry goat cheese, plain goat cheese or honey goat cheese works great too!
Garlic Aioli: Creamy, garlicky aioli adds a rich, savory sauce-like spread. To me, the more garlic the better.
Arugula: This peppery arugula topping adds a fresh, slightly bitter flavor that balances the richness of the cheese and sauce. I love adding arugula to everything but if you don’t you can use spinach or parsley instead for a touch of green!
Balsamic Glaze: This sweet glaze adds a touch of sophistication to the dish, plus it looks pretty drizzled on top. It’s a great way to balance the flavors of all the goat cheese crostini recipe ingredients.
Pecans: These nuts add a crunchy texture and a sweet flavor to the crostini appetizers.
directions
Step 1
First, I slice the baguette into thin pieces. I like to make them about 3/4″-1″ thick. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper. You can also add a drizzle of balsamic glaze here or some garlic for extra flavor!
Step 2
Next, I bake on 350 for about 5 minutes, or air fry on 390 for 4-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Step 3
After, I spread a generous amount of cranberry goat cheese on each crostini. Then, I top with a handful of arugula and pecans. The more pecans the merrier! For a heartier option, add a slice of steak to each crostini. You can even so some with steak and some without so the guests can choose which goat cheese toasts work for them!
Step 4
My favorite part – drizzle the goat cheese crostini with balsamic glaze and garlic aioli.
expert tips & tricks
Choose the Right Bread! Gluten free bread can be difficult to navigate. I love udi’s gluten free baguettes, schars gluten free baguette or the trader joes one! A crusty, sturdy bread will hold up best with these toppings for the crostini appetizers.
Change up the toppings: You can change up the flavors and toppings every time you make this goat cheese crostini recipe. You can swap in another creamy cheese like feta or Gorgonzola, top with fresh figs or dates, or even use a different sauce drizzled on top. You can even add a different protein; A thin slice of prosciutto would go great on these gluten free crostini.
If you don’t like gluten free bread and still want to make gluten free crostinis, you can use a slice of toasted sweet potato instead! The sweet potato toast base makes a great gluten free crostini too! A local restaurant does their goat cheese crostini on sweet potato slices and they are so delicious I order them every single time I go!
Use a dairy free cheese to make dairy free crostinis! You can use dairy free ricotta or dairy free cream cheese!
serving, storing and meal prepping
I like to arrange the goat cheese crostini on a plate, platter or serving tray. I always garnish the goat cheese toasts with fresh herbs for a fancy presentation.
To store, I add the goat cheese crostini to an airtight container for up to four days.
