ingredients & substitutions
Apples
This apple crisp recipe is the perfect healthy apple treat. But, if you dont LOVE apples the way that I do, you can use any type of fruit. You can swap out the apples for peaches, pears or plumbs! Stay tuned for those recipes coming soon!

Granola
What makes this Gluten free apple crisp actually healthy, is that it skips the normal apple crisp topping of flour + butter. Butter has a lot of saturated fat so sometime I’m stuck looking for a healthier option. This apple crisp is topped with granola instead. I buy gluten free granola and to keep this a gluten free recipe you must buy gluten free granola.
You can buy any flavor gluten free granola you want. You can buy gluten free cinnamon granola, plain granola, honey flavored granola, etc. If you really want an upgrade use vanilla granola or pumpkin spice granola! Feel free to use vegan granola too if you want to keep this recipe vegan!

Honey
I use honey as a sweetener for the apple crisp, but you can use any type of sweetener you want. If you want to sub maple syrup instead of honey or vegan honey instead of regular honey, feel free! If you are trying to keep this recipe sugar free use a sugar free maple syrup instead.
Cinnamon + Pumpkin spice
A classic flavor in all apple crisps is cinnamon. This recipe also calls for pumpkin spice as an upgrade to the classic flavor. If you like pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bread and all fall flavors, you’ll love this version.

Cool Whip
Instead of topping this Gluten free apple crisp with a scoop of ice cream, I used cool whip! Its lower in fat and a lighter, healthier option while still getting that creamy flavor. You can use a low fat, lite or fat free cool whip for a lighter option. You can also use a dairy free cool whip or a coconut whip on top instead to keep it vegan!
