Is edible cookie dough safe to eat?
Raw cookie dough is usually a no-go for snacking because it has raw eggs, which can cause food poisoning, and regular flour, which might contain harmful bacteria that gets killed during baking. This recipe is different! The main difference is that it ditches the eggs altogether, solving the salmonella issue. Plus, it uses oat flour. Oats are naturally safe to eat raw, and grinding them into oat flour doesn’t change that. So, by skipping eggs and using oat flour, this gluten free edible cookie dough recipe creates a safe-to-eat cookie dough that lets you enjoy that delicious pre-baked flavor!

INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS
Peanut Butter: This is the base of the edible gluten-free cookie dough and provides protein and nuttiness. You can use any kind of peanut butter you like, but be sure to check the label to make sure it is gluten-free if you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Alternatives include almond butter, cashew butter, or sun butter (made from sunflower seeds) for a nut-free option.
Maple Syrup: This is a natural sweetener that binds the ingredients together. Use pure maple syrup if you can. If you are looking for a lower-sugar option, you can substitute sugar-free maple syrup. Other liquid sweeteners such as agave nectar or honey could also be used, but they may alter the taste slightly.
Oat Flour: This is a gluten-free flour made from grinding oats. Be sure to use certified gluten-free oat flour to avoid contamination with wheat flour. Almond flour, coconut flour or another gluten-free flour blend could be used instead, but the texture of the cookie dough may be different. You can use other gluten free all purpose flour but skip any with xanthan gum. Make sure you check if another gluten free flour is safe to eat without baking. Some flours, like casava flour, you will need to bake before making this gluten free edible cookie dough recipe. I like king arthur or bob’s red mill the best. You can find any of these options are your local grocery stores.
Vegan Chocolate Chips: These chips are are perfect for the dairy-free option because they made without dairy ingredients. You can use any other chips made from non-dairy milk as well.
